giving and stewardship

How does SunRidge view the whole area of giving and stewardship? Why should someone give money to the church -- because it is the right thing to do? Because it is a good tax write-off? God needs it? The church expects it?

Before we tell you what to write on your check or where to drop it off, it’s far more important that you know why we encourage you to give to God by giving to the church. To put it simply, it’s what God says to do. He tells us in the Bible that He wants us to give regularly, generously, and sacrificially out of all He gives us—all as part of our worship of Him.

Not because God needs what we have. But because we need to give it. What we do with what we have directs our heart. Giving to God reminds us that He has given us everything we have, and can be counted on to meet every need we will ever have. Giving something back to Him is an expression of gratitude and worship.

If you’d like to learn more about what God’s word teaches about giving, check out the brochure at the Information Kiosk on Good Stewardship.

how to give
Most Sundays, we pass around an offering plate during our morning service. We want you to feel free to give from your heart as an act of worship, when and however God prompts you to give. Envelopes for your offering are available in the chair pockets. If this is new to you, or you are just beginning to attend SunRidge, feel free to take a pass and learn more about SunRidge and about the principle of "tithing."

giving beyond
Almost all of us have received more than we truly need or could ever use. Beyond regularly giving God the first portion of all He gives us, He asks us to stretch ourselves by sacrificing to share with others who have needs. From time to time we will present opportunities for the church to do that, to give generously beyond the tithe towards a specific project or mission. But we find that SunRidgers find the most joy in just listening to the Holy Spirit about this kind of giving; meeting needs privately and spontaneously. There is nothing like the joy that generosity brings!
