Doubt.
February 21, 2012
Mark 9:22–24
The evil spirit often makes him fall into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us. Do something if you can. “What do you mean if you can?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly replied, “I do believe but help me not to doubt.”
This would be me. I hate to admit that… but it would. I believe but I doubt. I think that too often when I pray I forget that God is all powerful. I don’t pray for big miracles. I don’t always pray prayers that would seem difficult or challenging to the average human being… and deep down I think it’s because I am saying “If you can.” Quite often it is because I am saying “If you want to.”
Either way, I know that doubt has the ability to creep into my human brain and take over and I end up losing faith in the great works that God could do, if I just asked.
I know God is all powerful.
I know He answers prayer.
I have seen miracles.
So why does doubt have this power over me?
Father, I am sorry that at times I doubt .. even when I don’t think I am. I think that in my life I don’t ever think the thoughts “oh I doubt He can”, I believe it’s more in my actions and the way that I pray. I do not ask you for big things. I don’t even try. So God may I pray “non-doubting” prayers. May I be bold in my asks of you; in my praise of you. Lord forgive me. God you are so good. May I glorify you today. I love you. Amen.
