Day 4/21: KNOWING....Joy!

Day 4/21 – KNOWING…joy.

Welcome here! This blog is an “extra blog” being posted daily between January 13 and February 3 to come alongside the 21 Days of Prayer. We are reading the book of John with the intention of looking at Jesus very closely. We want to know Him really well so that we will love Him even more!

January 17, 2019

Good morning Jesus,

I am looking at John 4 this morning and I am asking, please come and sit with me. Close to me! I don’t want to miss what You want to point out to me today and today in particular I feel so distracted. Could You please still my mind? I give you my list, I give you the issues that are on my mind, I give you my calendar, what else? I give you my phone…I give you this TIME. Help me to turn down the noise and just listen.

I don’t know what is here that you want to show me, but I want to look closely at these Words of Yours. I want especially to look at You, Jesus, as closely as I can. I don’t want to assume things today and conclude things before Your Spirit even has a chance to speak. So, You lead…

The verse that is calling to me is verse 10:

Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”

This reminds me of another verse that is coming in John 14:7 where you asked a similar question, “If you really knew Me…”

I don’t know what it is, but when you say that Jesus, it gets me every time.

  • I hear you saying first of all “You can really know”…Jesus

  • and I hear you saying, “I want you to really know”…Jesus

  • and I find myself saying to myself, “Get to know!!!”…Jesus

I don’t want to be the person who is going about my life, all head down and doing what everyone does and see You standing off to the side saying “If you only knew the gift GOD has for you…you would stop doing what you are doing and ask…”

I don’t want to be praying in some sort of mechanical way only to hear You say, “If only you knew who you were speaking to you would have an entirely different kind of conversation…”

Agh!  Jesus, let’s talk!  I have my notebook and my pen and my hunger for the living water you are speaking of. I want to KNOW WHO I AM SPEAKING TO and I want to be an asker…

Dear reader…some time goes by….

Today You gave me a lovely gift. As I was writing all this…one of those Living Water gifts You spoke of in John 4 came my way. I was writing down my three prayer requests and praying through them…one of them is “#3 That I would genuinely and regularly experience more joy and less heaviness.”

I felt drawn back to John 2 and began reading a bit as I was praying and something jumped out at me – the first verse that talks about how, on the third day, You went to a wedding. Your Spirit let me enjoy this little thought: “Third days are for partying.” You were celebrating with friends on the third day and later in John you will SHOUT IT TO THE WHOLE EARTH when you rise again on the third day…celebrating with friends.

I love third day moments. You love third days. Third days are You. I love that I serve a GOD who loves a solid third day! As I try to really, really know Jesus (and through Jesus, the Father) this is an unmistakable thing about You. You love a good moment. In fact, were it not for us keeping you busy with our sin/rebellion issues, Your whole intention was to give us a third-day kind of life.

 How FUN is this?

Lord help me to walk as a third day follower – so amped today to be reminded that Your will is that I don’t walk around all heavy hearted but get on the third-day party train and live out the joy of the new world-view You give me.

Thank You for just answering request #3 (3!!!) for me for this moment. You lifted my spirit today by showing me this. Thank you Holy Spirit.

What day is every day? It’s a third day. Come Alive!
