Upper Room Refresh

Images shown here were generated with AI and include some small details which will not be in the final plan. Their purpose is to show a sample vision.

Goals

  • Increase space so people can enter, get coffee, and linger easier.

  • Create a good space for parents with wiggly kids to watch the message.

  • Create more effective meeting spaces while keeping the church building accessible.

  • Refresh the upper room so it is a great first impression of the church.

Above: Storage bench for toys and seating. Kids table for colouring. TV on wall near stools for watching the message.

Current Challenges

  • Lack of space. The mostly unused reception desk and boardroom table take up a lot of space so the Upper Room becomes crowded on Sunday mornings.

  • Hard to hear the message. The TV is across the room, the sound is too quiet, and the kids toys are loud when dropped on the floor.

  • Meetings held in the Upper Room prevent others from using the kitchen and washrooms and are easily interrupted.

Reception desk will be removed and repurposed as a part of the coffee bar. Cabinets will be painted and a gate will be built in front of the nook.

Plan

Questions

  • It’s going in the Gazebo! This room will be refreshed to be a great, more formal meeting space for 10-12 people.

  • We will do a small reorganize of the storage room past the kitchen and these items will be move in there.

  • We really want the Upper Room to feel approachable and welcoming to people walking in. Standing tables are great points to walk to a linger comfortably if you’re new and not sure where to go. Standing tables also make visiting more casual as opposed to sitting down with someone.
